Section 17 in Petaling Jaya is slowly morphing into a hippie neighborhood, with various nooks and crannies that are filled with artisanal food joints and delectable offerings. I’m certainly thrilled as a local resident, as I don’t really need to travel far in order to have a good meal or a decent cup of java. One of the nooks that I occasionally patronize is the The Humble Pie Co., which is along the same row as the popular (as possibly overrated) Kanna curry house.
They have probably one of the best pies in town, if you’re into that sort of thing. But there’s definitely nothing humble about their prices, with a small pie fetching a princely sum of RM18.
That being said, I instantly fell in love with their banofee (banana + toffee) pie, as well as their Musang King pie (Musang King is a type of durian, which is highly prized by aficianados). The crust is absolutely flakey and buttery, just the way I love it. The musang king pie is laden with actual durian meat, which will surely make the most ardent durian lover swoon and the non-believers cringe. They definitely struck the right balance, as the pies are not overtly sweet.
I can imagine some folks being offended by the prices, but damn, their pies are f**kin awesome. For the occasional indulgence I suppose, and price aside, I’m glad that there’s an increasing number of food options with a respectable level of cookery involved. If anything, I’m definitely hopeful for the future of the gastronomical scene in town. If only the prices weren’t so astronomical! One can only hope.
